Entrepreneur Series: Building Successful Teams Isnt Easy

The one thing that can separate you from the pack during your entrepreneurial career is your ability to build effective teams.

The companies you start can only go as high and as far as the team you have behind it. The talent you draw will be based on your experience, expertise and business savvy youve gained thus far.

The more you understand legal issues, finance options and business structures, coupled with your ability to inspire people and share compelling ideas for a better future, the more competent your team members will become.

Heres the thing though; during your entrepreneurial journey youll recruit many teams to operate companies you start and only a few of these, during instrumental periods of your life, will become ultimate successes. The rest wont make the cut.

People are funny. They will do things that will leave you shaking your head and dumbfounded. Youll do things that 10 years from now youll be shaking your head at!

Every individual you recruit on the team you did so because you believed they were the absolute best candidate to get the job done. Theres lots of love, expectation and excitement from the team in the beginning, but then the pressures, problems and real world situations come into play and you just dont know what people are made out of until theyre stressed and tested.

A founding team that argues and butts heads often will find success nearly impossible to attain. This causes too many distractions and leads ultimately to failure.

People will disappoint you. You wont get around it. You cant change people or expect them to be what or how you want them to be. You just have to learn from the experience and move on or you can choose to deal with a bunch of crap, costly law suits or add unnecessary years to your life wasting time you dont have to waste.

Instead you can build a half dozen more teams and companies, of which one of these could be one of those few ultimate successes youre going to hit out of the park. The key is to be making progress every minute, hour and day you have the privilege of being above ground.

If you have a purpose and vision for something much bigger than yourself, people will always be necessary to complete your mission. You just need to prepare yourself for the reality that people and teams can create unnecessary situations that can prevent a business from becoming successful.

There comes a time to move on. These are bumps in the road that sometimes cannot be avoided and the sooner you move on and focus on productively moving your life and mission forward, the sooner youll be back in the game building businesses, which is right where youre suppose to be!

Entrepreneur Series: Taking Complete Responsibility

Entrepreneur Series: Taking Complete Responsibility

Ever notice how most folks find fault with someone else when something goes awry?

One leadership quality that the most successful entrepreneurs past, present and future possess is taking complete responsibility.

Responsibility for themselves, responsibility for the others they lead and ultimately the results achieved both good and bad.

If you desire to be a great entrepreneur, you cant be someone that passes the buck, ever!

The buck must stop with you. Stand up, take responsibility (ultimately it is) and make whatever adjustments you need to make to get better results.

Entrepreneurship and leadership go hand and hand. Excuses wont cut it. Great companies are not built by flakey people; but by strong leaders who know who they are, know where theyre going and take complete responsibility for their journey to the promise land.

This is the kind of entrepreneur leader that people respect and follow.

It would be great to hear your thoughts on other traits that are a must for successful entrepreneurship below in the comment section.

Entrepreneur Series: Competency

In order to be a brilliant entrepreneur, you must be competent.

I didnt say educated. Thats not even necessary to build billion dollar companies. There are plenty of examples of this; Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Michael Dell, Mark Zuckerberg, just to name a few you might recognize.

Heck, Henry Ford didnt get past the 6th grade!

However, the one thing you better be loaded with is competence.

This comes from real world experience and street smarts.

You need to be able to see and identify your needs clearly and inspire and lead the right people to get things done.

This includes legal, accounting, sales marketing, operations management, secretarial, janitorial and anybody else who is required to sail the ship smoothly.

Competent entrepreneurs understand every aspect of business and have the ability to build teams of people who can implement and execute a plan.

Its not an option, but a requirement to intimately understand what makes a business operate.

Any area you dont understand first hand will inevitably lead to a problems and lost profits in your business.

Whats the remedy? Start a business. Run a business. Fail at a business. Rinse and Repeat.

With every business you start, the more capable youll become at operating and building them.

What traits have you found to be crucial for entrepreneurial success?

Entrepreneur Series: Become a Master at Solving Problems

I ran across an informative article by naijapreneur.com BUSINESS HEALTH CHECK: 7 Warning Signs of a Dying Business. If youre having problems or issues that you cant quite put your finger on, this may give you some ideas on how to correct them, check it out!

Theres one thing you can absolutely count on during your entrepreneurial career; there will be many problems to solve!

Financial problems, people problems, problems from left field, center field, right field and certainly problems you didnt foresee when you set out on your entrepreneurial journey.

This is one thing you can plan on; NOTHING GOES AS PLANNED!

Entrepreneurship is not for people who dodge problems. One of the strongest traits of great entrepreneurs is they aggressively tackle and solve problems.

Its the only way to keep problems manageable; otherwise your problems will overwhelm and bury you.

This is not a good place to be, emotionally, spiritually, or physically. It can have a negative impact on the business at hand, your employees, your family life and even your health can suffer too.

Entrepreneurs are built specifically to solve problems (and never let anyone see them sweat : ).

Theres a solution for every problem under the sun. Its just the way it is. If you look hard enough, then look some more, the answers will come. They always do.

However answers dont always conveniently present themselves in a timely fashion. Sometimes the answer appears at the last minute PHEW!

Its the meantime that can chew you up, spit you out and have you wanting to run home to mama.

Seriously though, if problems have a tendency to overwhelm you, you may want to re-think your decision to be, or to become an entrepreneur.

The underlying factor behind every great entrepreneurial feat accomplished in history has been the result of entrepreneurs solving many problems; both internal external in the business and in the marketplace.

If you have some tips or questions on how to effectively deal with problems in your business, please share in the comment section below, thank you.

Is Social Media a Waste of Time?

Is Social Media a Waste of Time?

It certainly can be

This blog post by TheJackB (Jack Steiner) Twitter Is Dead!- Long Live Twitter! inspired the thoughts below. Check it out!

Social media are simply web-based platforms that allow people to communicate on.

It doesnt take much time to share a post, tweet a link, or update your status; anybody can make time to consistently share on the social web. It takes about 20 minutes a day to do this.

What takes time is building relationships with other people you connect with. That requires attention, time and neutering just like every other relationship youre invloved in.

Its the quality of the relationships you build with others on these platforms that will determine the value of the social web for you.

If youre not developing strong, productive, profitable, rewarding relationships with others, the value will be little to nothing.

If youre building strategic, long term relationships THEY WILL ABSOLUTELY ENHANCE YOUR LIFE EXPERIENCE, both professionally and personally and be extremely valuable to you.

Thats the only difference between people who say social media is a waste of time and those who say its not. One has leveraged social media to build quality relationships, while the other has not.

Relationships drive your life, whether at work, at church, in the neighborhood or on the web. There really is no difference. We are moved in life by words and conversations.

The quality of life youre experiencing right now is based on the people youve allowed in and the quality of conversations youre having with them.

Your future and whether or not youre living your dream or a nightmare will be determined by the same things.

The social web provides access to people who can help you do anything, be anything, and achieve anything you want in life.

You just have to take the time to identify and build relationships with people who can help you change and mold your world into what you desire.

If you approach your social media activities in this manner, youll never feel like your wasting time; in fact, a whole new world with the most amazing people on the planet will open up to you.

Are you using social media to build relationships that can impact your life?

In Business, Results Are the Only Thing That Defines You

In Business, Results Are the Only Thing That Defines You

Nothing else really matters.

Nobody can say anything to people who get results and you will always be in high demand because you get shit done.

Theres lots of room at the top for folks who can make things happen. In the grand scheme of things theres a lot more talkers, dreamers and schemers then those who can actually move people to get things accomplished.

Some say that you have a choice in this matter, but is this really the fact?

I mean, who would choose to be a nagging, negative, complaining douchbag in life?

If in fact there is a choice, I guess most people must choose to be idiots and non-performers?

What kind of individual wastes perfectly good time to be jealous of others, or blame others for their circumstances and shortcomings, or poke holes in dreams and goals of other people who desire to be productive in life?

Heres the message for doers: dont listen to what negative people think or say about you, they dont matter!

The only people who matter in life are those who support your dreams, goals and ambitions.

Theyre the source of positive energy and inspiration that drive you to be the best that you can be, doing what you love to do.

And the rest? They can pack sand!

There are far too many brilliant people out there who have much to give the world who are being held back this very moment by people whod rather tear them down than build them up.

The bottom line;

Dont be a talker, be a doer.

Separate yourself from anyone who doesnt celebrate your life and your mission.

Let results define you professionally and personally.

If you live this way, youll live a productive life and waste a lot less time.

Entrepreneur Series: Past, Present and Future

Entrepreneur Series: Past, Present and Future

, //

@ Mark Harai

// View Comments

We all have to deal with our past mistakes and snafus take full advantage of the present with our actions and time and look toward the future for the fulfillment of our vision and dreams.

The problem is, if you dont take control of how these 3 things occupy and impact your thinking space they can trip you up and prevent you from making any progress at all.

1.) Learn From The Past

LEARN. The past can hurt.

Have you ever noticed how you can often remember the crummy things that have happened to you and forget all of the good things?

This has a tendency to drag things down a bit, yes?

The fact is your greatest capacity for contributing something of value to the world is directly related to the biggest mistakes youve made and learned from. There isnt anything more valuable than your real world experience that you can pass on for the benefit of others.

So many people carry their past as regrets, sorrows, and pity and relive them over and over again in that light to the point that they lose their hope and aspiration for the future.

Dont let that be you. All it takes is a check up from the neck up (mindset change) so you can see things in a different light and CHANGE YOUR WORLD NOW.

Everyone goes through unfair or negative things in life but not everyone benefits from them. Only those who choose to benefit from them do. So choose!

2.) Take Action in the Present

ACTION. Thats the only thing that makes you what you are. You are what you do.

Saying youre going to do things that you never take action is dangerous ground. This behavior becomes a habit very quickly.

Its called procrastination and this road only leads to mediocrity, regret and disappointment. Get out and stay out of here!

With every breath you take, BE and DO what you know in your heart you are; otherwise you might wake up one day and not have that choice.

3.) Keep an Eye on the Future

VISION. Its the one inherent ability every entrepreneur Ive ever known has.

Entrepreneurs have the ability to see what their business looks like in the future and make it a reality.

The key is being able to share your vision of that business with others and get them to see it, embrace it and even become part of it too!

Whatever your vision is, its more than likely going to take people to make it happen. Good people. The best people.

Now if you can master this, youll be a force to reckoned with and you can build as many companies as you desire.

A Good Example:

Steve Jobs was an amazing entrepreneur. He was able to infect employees and consumers with his vision for the future.

He was so good at it, that he had millions of people eating out of his hand and hungry for more.

He was a master at building huge interest and tons of excitement for a future that was yet to come.

The future of things to come and successfully delivering that future via its innovative user-friendly products is how got Apple to the top. And, its not what theyve already done that will keep them there either only the things they build in the future will.

Steve Jobs left some big shoes behind to fill There just arent that many humans on the planet who can instill their vision for the future in others the way he did. He could move millions of people with a single idea. Thats powerful.

To Sum it up;

Learn from the past. Take action keep moving forward everyday. Never stop dreaming, envisioning and communication a better future for all.

As an entrepreneur, youre only as successful as the last company you built and everything worthwhile and impactful lies in your future; so get busy building that first business youve envisioned or take action on building another company that solves a problem, fills a void and/or makes lives better for all.

Entrepreneurs never retire they just cut down the number of companies they work on at any given time : )

Successful Entrepreneurship is powered by Perspective & Attitude

Successful Entrepreneurship is powered by Perspective Attitude

How do you make people feel when youre around them?

Are they inspired by your presence, or do you drag them down?

Do you whine, nitpick, nag and blame others for your circumstances or elevate others around you?

You see, this is a very hard truth to swallow, but there is no way to help an individual who cant see or get past themselves. Everything and anything one could hope and wish for is outside of your own little world. All of your future potential is wrapped up in everything outside of you.

When you take your attention off yourself and see whats right in front of you, a world with unlimited opportunity and every resource available at your fingertips to do and be awesome will open up to you.

Everyday youre doing one of two things youre either empowering energizing everything around you, or youre sucking the life out of it.

Self-centeredness is the root of everything sour and sick. Its the lowest possible view point to see and experience life from.

With the proper perspective and attitude, you can encourage, empower, and engage life confidently and purposefully to advance your plans, while leading others to excel and be all they can be.

Successful entrepreneurship is empowered by an individuals perspective and attitude. Theres nothing that can stop these two things working together.

The key is your desires must benefit others. Selfish desires dont attract resources and seldom provide satisfaction, because by nature enough is never enough. Theres always just one more thing you need that will make you happy.

If you focus on the world around you and contribute whatever you can to make it better everyday, all of those things you would love to have for your family and your future will come in due time.

To sum things up, if you have a vision heart for others and are willing to invest your life into serving others, then you possess the right attitude and prospective for successful entrepreneurship.

There are many attributes of successful entrepreneurship and it would be awesome if you would share some of your experience, tips and advice on the subject below in the comments
